LONDON -- The discovery of an old photo album beneath the seat of an armchair has sparked a mass hunt on Facebook.

After finding the album inside the chair -- which he'd purchased from a market in Brockley, London -- Oli Lansley took to social media to try and track down its owner.

Here's Lansley's post in full.

Lansley's post received well over 20,000 shares in its first 24 hours. It's since been shared on Reddit and Imgur too.

On Thursday morning, Lansley shared the following update.

Mashablespoke to Lansley early Thursday afternoon, and he confirmed that his lead has turned out to be a good one.

"I've actually managed to track him down!" Lansley said. "His daughter (the baby in the pic) got in touch."

"I'll be handing it back under 48 hours from my first post," he said, adding that he's giving the album back Friday.

Lansley went on to say that the owner lost his album nearly 20 years ago -- his chair had been left in storage and ended up getting sold, so he'd thought it was lost forever.

"He seemed really pleased as I think these were the only photos he had of that time," Lansley said.

"I think the amazing thing was just how many people took this to heart, trying to help one stranger do a tiny favour for another stranger."
